President Hu to Meet Obama?

China’s President Hu Jintao is headed to Washington next week for a Nov. 15 summit of the world’s largest economies. It’s not clear yet if president-elect Barack Obama will participate in the meeting to discuss the global financial crisis, and the AP reports that Chinese officials were noncommittal about whether Hu and Obama would meet. Yesterday Obama spoke by phone with leaders of nine nations including Taro Aso of Japan and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. Hu wasn’t on the list. Seems like if the two got together they could find something to talk about, maybe capturing the youth vote or online fundraising or possibly the massive economic problems their two countries are facing.

Obama’s Afghanistan Problem: Neither Karzai Nor the Taliban Like the ‘Reconciliation’ Script

President Barack Obama huddled with President Hamid Karzai in Chicago on Sunday, urging Afghanistan’s leader to accelerate negotiations with the Taliban over a political solution to the longest war in America’s history. But the prospect for Karzai negotiating successfully with the insurgents is clouded by a question raised by Josef Stalin, on the eve of World War II, in response to the suggestion that he offer concessions to the Pope: “How many divisions does he have?” The Taliban now ask the same question about Karzai. And should the Afghan leader also ask himself the question, he might reach a similarly dispiriting conclusion. Karzai’s independent power base is minimal, as is his ability to influence the outcome of his country’s civil war absent direct U.S. involvement. And that gives neither Karzai nor the Taliban much incentive to cut a deal with the other.

Spillover - Lebanon’s Daily Star reports on escalating violence inside the country after soldiers shot dead a prominent anti-Bashar al-Assad Muslim preacher Sunday. “The gravity of the incident… prompted leaders on both sides of the political divide to call for calm and restraint to prevent the country from sliding into sectarian strife as a result of a spillover of the 15-month-old uprising in neighboring Syria,” it says.

I bet the first thing they are going talk about is the “human-rights”…

To me, he seems looking down on China and the emerging market countries. I guess that Obama probably thought that he could save the world’s financial downturn without the coordination from China and the emerging countries. That is fine. Please pay your debt, America.

What did they say? He would work with Mr. Lee of South Korea to solve the problem of North Korea? So, Mr. Obama would not need China’s help either on this front, I guess.

    Best wishes, America!

Oh, Mr Obama is simply trying to avoid paying the massive US debt we hold on his new country. He wants to bankrupt it further with his social programs first.

Or perhaps he wants to pay off Japan first, who holds an even bigger US debt than China.
